Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe, 83, Tipton passed away at 1:58 a.m. on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at home. She was born on April 6, 1940, in Quincy, Ill., to Archie Ward and Cleo A. (Wood) Ward Hamilton.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her long-time partner, Dick Gephart; her parents; a daughter, Joy Monroe-England; her stepfather, Jesse Hamilton; Nelson Monroe, the father of her children; and one grandson, Richard Eaton.

Marilyn had worked in assembly for JB Electronics in Westfield for over 20 years. She was a graduate of Unity High School in Mendon, Ill. She was an avid artist who loved to draw and paint. Bowling with her friends was one of her favorite activities and she participated in several leagues. Marilyn loved to dance, especially to Elvis Presley songs. She spent a great deal of time camping and fishing with her family.

Survivors include three children, Fred Monroe, Westfield, Eric Monroe, Tipton, and Tina Marie Monroe, also of Tipton; two brothers, Ronnie Ward and wife Jean, Mendon, Ill., and Larry Ward of Quincy, Ill. Marilyn also has six grandchildren: Jesse Monroe (Miguel), Whitney Monroe, Jennie Monroe-Pieper (Scott), Shiloh Tolbert (Mat), William Cole Wells (Stephanie), and Kaylee England; as well as several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Marilyn are scheduled for 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 4 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home, 216 W. Jefferson St., Tipton, with Rev. Blake Watson presiding. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on that Saturday.
