Dennis J. McGrady

December 27, 1948 – October 26, 2023

Dennis J. McGrady, 74, Noblesville, formerly of Hartford City, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at home.

He was born on December 27, 1948, in New Castle, Ind., a son of the late John and Aileen (Dennis) McGrady.

Denny was a 1967 graduate of New Castle Chrysler High School and attended Ball State University. On August 9, 1969, he married the love of his life, Sue Thompson. From an early age, Denny loved flying and soloed on his 16th birthday. He served 25 years as Vice President of Pyromet Inc. and Chief Corporate Pilot for Ontario Corporation in Muncie. For the past 25 years, Denny was Executive Vice President, a member of the board of directors, and a pilot at Tube Processing in Indianapolis, retiring in February 2022.

Denny also served as President of the Shamrock Lakes Town near Hartford City and President of the Blackford Country Club. He was a member of the Parish Council of St. John’s Parish in Hartford City, The Knights of Columbus, and the Noblesville Moose Lodge #540.

Denny loved to play golf and feed the donkeys on the family farm treats, but his greatest love was spending time with his grandchildren.

Those left to cherish Denny’s memory include his loving wife of 54 years, Sue McGrady; son, John P. McGrady of Scottsdale, Ariz.; daughter, Kim (Ron) Hanson of Noblesville; three grandchildren, Samantha Hanson, Mallory Hanson, and Ellie McGrady; three sisters, Sheila (Dick) Bolduc of Hartford City, Maureen (Marty) Talbott of Noblesville, and Denise Van Brunt of Pendleton; sister-in-law, Becky McGrady of New Castle; mother-in-law, Grace Thompson of Sebring, Fla.; brothers-in-law, Brad (Lynn) Thompson, Eric (Cheryl) Thompson, and Greg Reid all of Florida, and Scott (Kristia) Purcell of Virginia; a sister-in-law, Joetta Pitts of Greenwood, and several loving nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Denny was preceded in death by a brother, Pat McGrady; two brothers-in-law, Craig Van Brunt and Steve Thompson; his mother-in-law, Mary Purcell, and father-in-law, Sam Thompson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at Sproles Family Funeral Home with Father Robert Williams officiating. Burial will follow in St. Anne Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and one hour before the funeral on Tuesday.
