Local lawmakers react to $45M in READI 2.0 funds en route to central Indiana

Hamilton County’s Republican state representatives issued statements Friday on the recent announcement of $45 million from the Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative, or READI 2.0, awarded to central Indiana.

The Indiana General Assembly supported the funding in the state’s two-year budget during the 2023 legislative session. Indiana’s $500 million total investment in this round of funding is expected to yield nearly $11 billion in overall investments from public and private sources to increase the vibrancy and prosperity of Hoosier communities.

“Indiana’s successful READI program continues to unite communities and ignite their vision for growth,” House Speaker Todd Huston (R-Fishers) said. “Our state’s strong fiscal position, made possible by years of responsible budgeting, has allowed us to make this significant investment while also cutting taxes for Hoosiers. I’m looking forward to seeing this new round of projects in Hamilton County move forward.”

“These public, private and nonprofit partnerships are delivering results for Hoosiers and driving economic growth throughout central Indiana,” State Rep. Chuck Goodrich (R-Noblesville) said. “Businesses and population in our region is booming and innovative initiatives like the READI grant program will keep our momentum going.”

“Collaborative efforts like this one can help nearby communities pool resources and tackle projects more effectively,” State Rep. Chris Jeter (R-Fishers). “Central Indiana is poised to implement innovative ideas that will help make our region a top destination for visitors, new residents, and businesses.”

“Our proximity to the Indianapolis airport and capital city makes this region a unique place to call home,” State Rep. Donna Schaibley (R-Carmel) said. “By working with neighboring counties, our communities are investing in innovative ideas that can set our area and Indiana apart from the rest of the country.”

“With READI grants, we’ll see a large return on our investment as public, private, and nonprofit partnerships are leveraged for the benefit of all Hoosiers,” said State Rep. Jerry Torr (R-Carmel) said. “A lot of planning and thought went into these regional proposals, and I’m excited for them to come to fruition and for all of the hard work to pay off.”
