Vietnam era veteran, Richard Steckley, 85 years young, was honored for his service to our country at the Horseshoe Prairie Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution Christmas meeting on Dec. 9.
Mr. Steckley, a Bronze Star recipient, served two tours of duty during the conflict.
Chapter Regent Shirley Smith presented Mr. Steckley with a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol Building at the request of Representative Victoria Spartz in honor of Steckley. The members of the Horseshoe Prairie DAR Chapter thanked Richard for his service with applause and a standing ovation.
Steckley and his wife, Jean, will present a program in September recounting their experiences when he served, and their months of separation as husband, wife, and parents during the Vietnam War.
