Legacy of Hope helping bring awareness to children’s grief

The Brooke’s Place Legacy of Hope breakfast is an annual fundraiser that coincides with National Children’s Grief Awareness Day. Occurring yearly on the third Thursday in November, National Children’s Grief Awareness Day spotlights children’s grief and honors grieving families during the often difficult holiday season. This year’s breakfast will be held from 7:30 to 9 a.m. on Nov. 16 at the 502 East Event Centre in Carmel. It is a no cost event and a hot breakfast will be served.

Brooke’s Place is pleased to announce that DePauw University alumna and former Brooke’s Place facilitator, Noel Sudano, will be the keynote speaker. Noel was a high school sophomore at Columbine High School when the tragic shooting occurred in Littleton, Colo. Noel accepted a scholarship to attend DePauw University with a double major in music and psychology. While attending college in the Indianapolis area, Noel became a volunteer facilitator at Brooke’s Place. It was during her time at Brooke’s Place that she began to fully comprehend the amount of healing and grief work that she needed herself. She credits her volunteer experiences at Brooke’s Place as the reason that she was able to return to Littleton and Columbine High School where she works as a school counselor.

Brooke’s Place has been providing grief support services since 1999. Brooke’s Place provides support groups, therapy services and community education to empower children, teens, young adults and their families to help them thrive in the midst of grief. Since its inception, Brooke’s Place has provided services to more than 9,000 individuals. For more information, please visit the website brookesplace.org
