January 20, 1942 – October 26, 2025
Judy Ann Woodrow-Huss, 83, Noblesville, died peacefully on October 26, 2025, after a short illness surrounded by her family.
Judy was born in Casey, Ill., in 1942 to Harlan and Clara Woodrow and was the second of six children. Her early years were spent in East Chicago, Ind., but she shared many stories about the times she spent at her Grandpa and Grandma Jacobs’ farm in Casey.
Judy met the love of her life, David Huss, in 1960 at a Thom McAn shoe store where Dave was employed. They were married on August 8, 1960, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hammond, Ind. They shared 32 years of marriage and 11 children. Each one of her children was her favorite in their own way.
Judy’s proudest role was being a mother to her 11 children, Carol Ehrick, Cathy Huss (Jackie), David Huss (Cara), Daniel Huss (Laurie), Christopher Huss (Lori), Thomas Huss (Carla), Gretchen Larsen (Erik), Elizabeth Meehan (Tom), Jeanne McDonald (Chris), Paul Huss, and Joshua Huss (Amanda). She was asked by several of her children how she managed that many children and household chores. She responded that she would go to bed at midnight and wake up at 4:30 a.m. to keep up with the endless loads of laundry. She kept an early version of an Excel spreadsheet inside the kitchen cabinet to keep track of likes/dislikes for each child’s sandwich preferences when preparing lunches.
Her second proudest role was being Grandma to her 27 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She treasured her time spent with all of her grandchildren and loved being their GMAJ, attending their school performances, musical/dance performances, sporting events, and scouting milestones. Her grandchildren are James Ehrick (Amy), Christine Chavez (Jose), Patrick Ehrick (Samantha), David Huss III (Rachel), Rachel Huss, Anastasia Huss, Tatiana Huss, Joseph Huss (Madison), Megan Huss, Lexi Vergatos (Nick), Nicholas Huss, Thomas Huss, Bethany Huss, Emily Huss, Noah Huss, Christopher Larsen, Jacob Larsen (Rachel), Garrett Meehan, Connor Meehan, Colin McDonald, Amelia McDonald, Ian McDonald, Charlie Carter, Liam Huss, Sylvia Huss (Noah) and Evelyn Huss. Her great-grandchildren are John Michael Ehrick, Jenna Ehrick, Samual Ehrick, Alexander Chavez, Isabella Chavez, Marcus Chavez, Bailey Bray, and Ethan Larsen.
Judy retired from her role as a telephone operator. She started with GTE, which later became Verizon. She was passionate about volunteering and volunteered as an office worker/scheduler at the HOPE Free Clinic in Cicero, which provided free health care to the community, and she also volunteered at St Vincent DePaul – NobleCause. She was an active member of the Altar Rosary Society at St. Peter Catholic Church in La Porte, Ind., and Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Noblesville.
Judy was a gifted seamstress, often making clothes for herself and her children. Some of her most prized heirloom creations were First Holy Communion dresses for her daughters and Baptismal gowns for her grandchildren. She was an avid knitter and would make scarves, hats, and mittens to be donated to local charities.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Harlan and Clara Woodrow, and her sisters, Janet McGhee and CH Woodrow, and is survived by her brothers, Byron Woodrow and Myron Woodrow (Adele) and her sister Mary McQueen.
Visitation for Judy will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, November 24, 2025, at Hartley-Dunnichay Funeral Home, 209 W. Jackson St., Cicero, and again at 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 9900 E. 191st St., Noblesville.
