John David Leer

March 29, 1940 – March 17, 2023

John David Leer, 82, Cicero, passed away on March 17, 2023, at his home.

He was born on March 29, 1940, in Noblesville to George Edward and Myrtle Marie (Coats) Leer. He grew up in White River Township and was educated at Walnut Grove School, receiving his diploma while in service in 1962. He honorably served his country in the Tank Division of the U.S. Army.

Upon returning home, he started his construction business as an excavator, known as Leer Excavating.

He married Lola Faye (Reid) Leer on November 4, 1961, and they enjoyed traveling America. They loved being in the Smoky Mountains and lived in a log cabin there for almost 13 years, returning to Indiana recently. John dearly loved his wife, daughter, and the entire family. His dogs were a close second, especially the Bassett Hounds.

He enjoyed buying and selling cars, tractors, and motorcycles. He also enjoyed a good cigar.

He was a member of Strawtown Community Church.

John was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George Leer and Martin Leer; and a sister, Ruth Hamby.

Survivors include his wife, Lola Faye; a daughter, Jennifer Anne Dilts of Noblesville; and a brother, Donald Leer of Watson, Okla.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at Hartley Funeral Home Cicero Chapel, 209 W. Jackson St., Cicero, with Pastor Rick Huffman officiating. A time of visitation will be from noon until time of the service. Burial will follow at Carey Cemetery, north of Noblesville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Strawtown Community Church. Donation envelopes will be available during the services at the Funeral Home.
