Jake Gilbert, Westfield High School football coach and city councilor, announces campaign for mayor

Westfield High School’s Dean of Wellness and longtime Varsity Head Football Coach Jake Gilbert is filing as a candidate to be the next Mayor of Westfield.

Gilbert says he has a vision for Westfield focusing on the city’s long-term challenges and opportunities. “As the next mayor, I will work each day to ensure we are a connected community focused on realizing our full potential.”

Gilbert is currently focusing on his career helping to shape successful young people at Westfield High School and serving his neighbors on the Westfield City Council. He also serves as the President of the Wellbeing Coalition of Westfield.

Gilbert has invested in many other civic and service-oriented organizations, including: Young Life, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Open Doors Food Pantry, Westfield Youth Assistance Program, Special Olympics, and Riley’s Children Hospital. During his time as a teacher, he has awarded over 30 scholarships, founded Westfield’s Freshmen Mentor Program, and initiated an Opioid Awareness Campaign and the Shamrock Save a Life Walk.

On the football field, Coach Gilbert has led Westfield to the State Championship four times. He has been a finalist for a national coach of the year award three times and received the Power of Influence Award, which is the highest honor given to high school coaches, in both 2020 and 2021.

Gilbert is a self-described conservative who believes faith and family are the bedrock of strong communities.

Jake and Christina have been married for 21 years. They have three sons: Logan,18, Jackson, 16, and Tyson, 14. Christina works for Schaaf CPA. The Gilberts attend the Westfield Campus of Northview Christian Church where Jake also volunteers.
