The Sheridan Student Column is brought to readers by Sheridan High School’s 10th grade English class, taught by Abby Williams.

For the 2022 spring musical, Sheridan High School is performing Into the Woods JR., an adaptation of the 1987 Broadway musical of the same name, by Stephen Sondheim. The show premiered on Friday, but you can still catch the 7 p.m. performance tonight, Saturday, April 30, and the final performance at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 1. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for children 12 and under.

The story starts with three fairy tales – Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Little Red Riding Hood. All the characters, including the baker and his wife from Little Red’s story, have a specific wish. Cinderella wishes to go to the king’s festival. Jack wishes for his cow, Milky White, to give his family milk. The baker and his wife wish to have a child.

The only issue is that there is a curse put on the baker’s family from long ago – his father stole magic beans from the witch’s garden, so she cursed him! The witch visits and explains to the baker and his wife what they have to give her in order to reverse the curse: The cow as white as milk, the cape as red as blood, the hair as yellow as corn, and the slipper as pure as gold. All the characters head into the woods to get their wishes!

We have been working on the musical since January 2022 and are ready to perform! I play the baker’s wife and sophomore Robert Bowen plays the baker. Camelia Ignatencu, our foreign exchange student from Romania, plays Cinderella. Junior Lukas Harrington plays Jack, and freshman Lucy Cooper plays his mother. Rapunzel is played by Avery Hayden, a sophomore, and sophomore Chad Weaver plays her prince. Senior Michael Cronin plays Cinderella’s prince, and Emma Sutton, junior, plays his steward. Sophomore Kaitlyn Sebastian plays Little Red Riding Hood. Finally, senior Lexi Woodcock plays our very own witch.

We have been working hard on our musical for the past few months and would love for you to come! Ticket sales start an hour before each performance, and the doors open 30 minutes after that. We hope to see you there!
