Hamilton Heights High School senior Isaiah Heuer has signed a letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic career at Taylor University in Upland, Ind., where he will compete in Cross Country and Track & Field this fall. Taylor University is a member of the Crossroads League and a NAIA institution. He is the son of Eric and Jennifer Heuer.
A four-year varsity letter winner in both cross country and track, Heuer has earned numerous accolades for his performance on and off the course. He served as a three-year team captain in cross country, qualified for the state meet, and was named All-Conference, Academic All-State, and Academic All-Conference.
Heuer discovered his passion for running in middle school and has trained and competed year-round ever since, steadily building the endurance, discipline, and competitive drive that define his athletic career today.
When considering colleges, Heuer knew he wanted a Christian university with strong academics and athletics. He fell in love with Taylor’s campus immediately and looks forward to studying Business while competing for the Trojans.
He credits his father, Eric, and longtime coach Bill Trachtman among the individuals who have had the greatest impact on his growth and development as a runner and as a person.
“It’s been an honor to coach Isaiah Heuer,” Boys Cross Country Head Coach Bill Trachtman said. “He is a kind, caring, and hardworking young man. Isaiah is the consummate ‘team’ person. He has taken several underclassmen under his wings and taught them the importance of perseverance, a positive attitude, and loyalty to the program. Isaiah is a wonderful human being and his positive impact on our cross country program will be felt for years to come!”
Hamilton Heights Athletic Director Kurt Ogden added, “Isaiah is one of those quiet leaders that absolutely understands the process. To get better at running, you have to run … a lot. And that’s what he’s done in the past four years. Besides maintaining a strong work ethic, Isaiah is also a great kid. He has been an outstanding role model and leader of the cross country program so it’s exciting to see him rewarded for his efforts. We wish him well at Taylor University.”
Beyond athletics, Heuer is a member of the National Honor Society, volunteers at his church, and serves as a member of the Sunday youth worship band.
