This coming Monday – in case you missed it – the Moon is expected to blot out the Sun, which sounds like a big deal. Despite our dedication to the Center’s mission, we can’t compete with a show like that, so our offices will be closed April 8.

Never fear: There are tons of other places where you can experience the Total Solar Eclipse of 2024, alongside thousands of new friends from out of town. If you live in the area, the folks at Hamilton County Tourism have compiled a comprehensive list of local events and official viewing sites that probably includes your neighborhood pub, CVS, and auto parts store, so you’re all set!

Meanwhile, we have plenty of exciting news to report here at the Center. Take a look (no eclipse glasses required)!

Take a ride on the Concert Truck

Well, you don’t literally ride on the Concert Truck – it comes to you, bearing a grand piano and two talented classical players determined to turn any outdoor location into a temporary concert hall.

Because we love the idea of taking music to the people, the Center has enlisted the South Carolina-based Concert Truck to visit 10 central Indiana locations from April 23 to 27, delivering private concerts to schools and other organizations as well as two free performances open to the general public. Where can you catch the Concert Truck?

Are you ready?

A new performance season is in the works.

Only six shows remain in the 2023-2024 Center Presents Season, presented in partnership with Allied Solutions, which means we’d better hurry up and book the 2024-2025 Season.

Will we succeed in time? You’ll find out when we make our official public season announcement on May 21. But if you simply can’t stand the suspense, you can get the scoop one day early at the 2024-2025 Center Presents Season Announce Party. The occasion is for the Center’s donors and subscribers, but it’s easy to become one of those if you’re not already. Click this link.

One fall show is already announced and on sale: Backstreet Boy Nick Carter will play the Palladium on Sept. 26.

Livestream series to feature country-rocker

People who know Carmel resident Mike Wells from his corporate day job might not know about his alter ego, a guy who has written and recorded three albums of original folk- and country-rock music with some of the area’s finest musicians. He’s rounding up a team of players for the April 24 episode of Live at the Center, our monthly livestream concert series featuring Indiana-based artists. You can watch Wells’ set in person at the Palladium or catch the livestream free online.

The March installment of LATC featured Bullet Points, a guitar-driven indie-rock quartet from Indianapolis. Click here to watch that performance.

In other news …

On March 20, the Center held its fifth naturalization ceremony in cooperation with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. Years of effort and waiting paid off for approximately 100 Indiana residents from more than 30 countries who left the Palladium that day as U.S. citizens. It’s always an inspiring thing to see, and you can watch the replay on YouTube.

If you regret missing any recent Center Presents performances, local photographer Mark Sheldon has captured some cool images that will make you regret it even more. Visit the NUVO website for photos and recaps from March shows by Rickie Lee Jones, Carrie Newcomer, and A.J. Croce.

Would you like to sing on the Palladium stage? You have a chance April 16 when the Center hosts its annual World Voice Day celebration. It’s free to participate or just watch, but there are important details to know first, so be sure to click that link.

Sammy Miller and The Congregation, a gang of young folks from NYC playing old-school jazz for maximum fun, will appear at the Palladium on Friday, April 19, for two shows: a free matinee for local school groups, and a regular evening affair for the rest of us. As it turns out, the Grammy-nominated Mr. Miller is a kind and generous guy who loves sharing his favorite music, especially with students. For more on his philosophy, you can watch a video of his recent appearance on the Center’s JazzTalk show, read his interview with Applause magazine, and read the brand-new interview in Current.
