Hear the story of CIDE on ‘The Omnibus Show’

This week’s episode of The Omnibus Show featured Suzann DeLay and Ashley Jacobs – the mother/daughter duo from Central Indiana Dance Ensemble. DeLay is the Founding Director/Executive Director and Co-Owner of CIDE. Jacobs is Co-Artistic Director of CIDE, as well as the Co-Owner of the Central Indiana Academy of Dance.

They discussed Central Indiana Dance Ensemble, this year celebrating 25 years with a special announcement. They also told their success stories, how they fell in love with their art, how they train students, advice for students looking to become professional dancers, and memorable moments from performances.

DeLay received her early dance training in California with the founders of The Sacramento Ballet. She went on to dance a variety of contemporary and classical roles while a member of The Sacramento Ballet, had a brief career with Pacific Northwest Ballet, and then was forced to retire due to injury.

She then taught, choreographed, and performed throughout the United States. She occasionally teaches for the Contemporary Dance Department at Indiana University. She brings with her a vast knowledge of classical ballet and has taught that, as well as a creative dance program for children. DeLay has been recognized with numerous awards for choreography works and her teaching and is the former President for the Mid-States Board of Directors of Regional Dance America.

In 1999, DeLay founded the Central Indiana Dance Ensemble, which is celebrating its 25th season. Then, in 2009, she opened Central Indiana Academy of Dance to provide pre-professional training for CIDE.

Jacobs began her formal ballet training at the age of 10 with DeLay, who happens to be her mom. She performed several lead soloist roles for CIDE and also attended summer programs with major ballets across the U.S.

Jacobs attended the University of Utah as a ballet major, and in her sophomore year transferred to Indiana University to study in the Contemporary Dance Program. She also has received several awards in her dance and choreography. She has taught at many local studios, including Indiana University’s Pre-College Dance Program, and is currently a supervising teacher for Butler University’s Ballet Department.
