The Sheridan softball team lost its opening game at the Hoosier Heartland Conference tournament on Monday, but rebounded to win a consolation game on Tuesday.
The Blackhawks beat Clinton Central 6-5, avenging a 9-2 loss the Bulldogs dealt Sheridan on Friday, May 15. The Hawks used a late rally to stop a Clinton Central comeback; Sheridan scored three runs in the seventh inning.
The Hawks scored in the top of the first inning when Adria Jump tripled in Amiyah Doss. Machya Fosnight singled Norah Adams home in the fourth inning to give Sheridan a 2-0 lead.
The Bulldogs hit a home run in the bottom of the fourth for their first run. Fosnight batted in Makenzy Terry in the top of the sixth, but CC responded in the bottom of the sixth with four runs to take a 5-3 lead.
Sheridan fought back in the seventh inning. Doss led off with a triple and was sent home by a Jump single. Jump scored the tying run on an error, then Terry hit a sacrifice fly to send Abby Dallas home for the go-ahead run.
Jump pitched five innings for the win and was one of five Sheridan players with two hits. Doss, Dallas, Adams and Fosnight were the others.
The Blackhawks fell to Delphi 15-6 on Monday in six innings. Sheridan scored two runs in the first inning: Doss hit a two-out double, then Jump smacked a home run.
The Oracles put up three runs in the bottom of the first. Jump singled in Ellie Eaton to tie the game in the third inning at 3-3. But Delphi scored four runs in the fourth inning and one more in the fifth for an 8-3 lead.
Sheridan kept things close by putting up three runs in the top of the sixth. Doss led off with a homer, Remi Smith singled in Dallas and Anna Rusk drove in Terry. The Blackhawks were within 8-6, but the Oracles surged ahead in the bottom of the sixth, scoring seven runs.
Doss was flawless at the plate, hitting 3-for-3. Jump also had two hits.
Sheridan is 4-13 for the season.

Carmel waited out a rain delay to beat Greenfield-Central 17-7 in a five-inning game at Cherry Tree Softball Complex on Tuesday.
Both teams scored three runs in the first inning, then Carmel put up five runs in the second for an 8-3 lead. The Cougars cut the lead to 8-7 going into the bottom of the fourth, but Carmel powered home, scoring six runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth to end the game.
Ellie Goddard was perfect at the plate and then some, hitting three doubles in three at-bats. Goddard drove in four runs and scored two more.
Avery Klein had three hits; a home run, a double and a single to total four RBIs. Megan Pike hit a three-RBI triple, part of her perfect 3-for-3 game. Owens also totaled three hits and scored three runs. Chloe Junkersfeld scored three runs.
Chelsea Bennett pitched all five innings, striking out three.
Carmel is 12-11. The Greyhounds added two games to their schedule: they will play at Pendleton Heights this evening, then will host Columbus East on Thursday to finish the regular season.
