Gymnastics: Rocks qualify for regional

The Westfield gymnastics team is now 3-for-3 when it comes to reaching the regional.

The Shamrocks placed second at the Harrison sectional, which took place last Saturday at Elite Gymnastics Facility in Lafayette. Westfield totaled a team score of 103.85 points; Northwestern won the team championship with 109.45 points. West Lafayette placed third by scoring 101.95 points.

The top three teams at the sectional advance to the Portage regional, which takes place this Saturday. The ‘Rocks began their gymnastics program in 2023 and have qualified for the regional every year.

Senior Isa Galan finished fifth in the all-around scores with 35.175 points. She placed in the top 10 in three of the four events. Freshman Kelsey Atkinson had the highest event place for Westfield, taking fifth on the vault with an 8.975. Junior Madie Doran had the Shamrocks’ highest event score, posting a 9.10 on the floor exercise for seventh place.

Noblesville placed fourth as a team at the Franklin Central sectional, which took place last Friday at the Gymnastics Company.

The Millers scored 101.30 points and will have an individual gymnast competing this Friday at the regional, which also takes place at the Gymnastics Company. Valorey Bittles finished fifth in the all-around with a score of 34.725 points; the top six gymnasts in the all-around advance to the regional along with the top three teams.

Bittles’ best event was the floor exercise, where she took fourth by scoring 9.125. Bittles also placed eighth in the uneven bars.
