The Westfield girls tennis team made history on Thursday, winning the first sectional championship in program history.

The No. 16-ranked Shamrocks beat Hamilton Heights 5-0 at the Noblesville Tennis Complex. Westfield’s victories came from Isabella Norris, Juliette Grilliot and Addi Kooi in singles, with the teams of Jenna Berry/Bella Rivera and Bri Saylor/Carlie Lukowiak both winning doubles matches.

“I’m so proud of the team,” said Rocks coach Trudy Coler. Westfield won a close semifinal over No. 9 Noblesville on Wednesday, and the Shamrocks kept themselves focused in order to win the sectional.

“We came out with a focus on just the match in front of us,” said Coler. The coach said the team had several goals from the first day of the season and is happy to see the hard work of her players pay off.

“I really like that we were able to accomplish the goals we set this year,” said Coler.
