Girls basketball roundup: Huskies split games in Fort Wayne

Hamilton Heights split a pair of games Saturday at the Fort Wayne Snider Classic.
In their first game, the Huskies fell to Northrop 65-38. The Bruins outscored Heights 27-13 in the first quarter and led 36-21 at halftime, Northrop then went on a 19-6 run in the third period.
Kayla Kirtley made three 3-pointers to score nine points for the Huskies. Ana Collar pulled down five rebounds.
Heights rebounded in its second game, defeating Snider 48-32. The teams were tied 22-22 at halftime, but the Huskies only allowed the Panthers 10 points in the second half.
Kirtley scored 16 points. Bayleigh Runner drained four out of four 3-point attempts to total 12 points, while Lexi Branham was perfect on all three of her 3-point shots on her way to 11 points.
Collar grabbed 10 rebounds, while Kirtley corralled five boards. Branham and Collar each had four steals.
Heights is now 2-4, and off until next Saturday when it hosts Mount Vernon.

‘Hounds get overwhelming wins at Crown Point

Carmel continued to roll on Saturday, winning two lopsided games at the Crown Point Classic.
In their first game, the Class 4A No. 1 Greyhounds beat Merrillville 74-24. Carmel led 48-10 at halftime and had 11 different players score at least one point.
Jasmine McWilliams and Mackenzie Wood both scored 11 for the ‘Hounds, with Reagan Hune adding 10. Amy Dilk had a well-rounded game with eight points, eight rebounds and five steals. Blake Smith made seven rebounds, with Wood and Hune collecting six boards each. McWilliams and Maddi Sears both had four steals.
Carmel then took care of Crown Point 74-21. The Greyhounds led 29-3 after one quarter, then didn’t allow the Bulldogs any points in the fourth period.
Dilk scored 15 points in this game and also handed out six assists. Tomi Taiwo drained three 3-pointers on her way to 13 points, with Hune scoring 11. Macy Berglund led the rebounding with five.
Carmel is now 6-0 and hosts Noblesville on Tuesday.

‘Rocks notch fourth straight victory

Less than 24 hours after a big overtime victory, the Westfield girls basketball team blasted Kokomo 70-38 Saturday afternoon at The Rock.
In winning their fourth straight game, the Shamrocks outscored the Wildkats in each quarter. Westfield led 17-11 after the first period, then jumped to a 33-17 halftime advantage. The ‘Rocks then outscored Kokomo 19-7 in the third quarter.
Jade Shipley and Sophia Kreag both scored 16 points, with Shipley making three 3-pointers. Ryann Bunting poured in four 3s on her way to 14 points. Annabelle O’Hair grabbed seven rebounds, while Kreag handed out four assists.
Westfield is now 5-1 for the season and plays at Western Boone on Tuesday.

Golden Eagles fall to Heritage Christian

Guerin Catholic dropped a Circle City Conference game to Heritage Christian 74-38 Saturday at the Eagles Nest.
Heritage led the Golden Eagles 46-18 at halftime and allowed GC nine points in each quarter. Nicole Cunningham had a solid game, scoring 10 points, including two 3-pointers, and pulling eight rebounds.
Guerin Catholic is now 0-2 in conference play, 0-5 overall. The Golden Eagles will have next week off, then return to action on Nov. 30 at Yorktown.
