A not-so-spooky Halloween celebration is returning this October with Carmel Clay Park & Recreation’s (CCPR) Sensory Friendly Trick-or-Treat Trail. Individuals with disabilities and their families are invited to enjoy an afternoon of fun on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 1-3 p.m. at River Heritage Park, 11813 River Road.
The event offers a sensory friendly alternative to traditional trick-or-treating, allowing participants to enjoy the fun of Halloween without loud music, frightening decorations and other spooky surprises. Friendly volunteers dressed in non-threatening costumes will hand out treats along River Heritage Park’s fully accessible trails, with seasonal games and activities available at the end of the trail.
“Everyone, regardless of age or ability, should have an opportunity to enjoy Halloween,” said Kelvin Solares, CCPR Inclusion Program Supervisor. “Sensory Friendly Trick-or-Treat Trail gives individuals and their families a chance to celebrate in a way that feels comfortable for them while still enjoying what makes the holiday special.”
Registration for the Sensory Friendly Trick-or-Treat Trail is $7 per trick-or-treater, while accompanying family members are free. Preregistration is required. Trick-or-treaters should bring their own bag or basket for candy.
