Update No. 125

It is hard to believe we are in our fourth quarter of the 2023-24 school year. Time flies when you are having fun! As we prepare for the school year to draw to a close, let’s concentrate on making this quarter the best and finishing the year strong!

I am excited to share that Hamilton Heights will be changing the way it recognizes the academic excellence of its graduating seniors. To celebrate a greater number of deserving students and encourage a variety of academic pursuits, Hamilton Heights High School will transition to the Latin Honors System as a way to recognize students for their academic successes beginning with the Class of 2026.

To earn a Latin Honor designation, students must have a cumulative grade-point average (calculated at the completion of first semester of the senior year) of: Summa Cum Laude (4.0+ GPA), Magna Cum Laude (3.8-3.99 GPA), and Cum Laude (3.6-3.79 GPA). Valedictorian and Salutatorian will no longer be recognized. Latin Honors are widely used by colleges and universities and by a growing number of high schools across our state and throughout the country. As a result, it is familiar and understandable to parents, college admission officers, and prospective employers. Stay tuned! More info on this program to come.

Maddi Martin (HHHS ‘22), a student at Anderson University, and her high school business teacher, Kim Kaiser, were reconnected as part of the “Realizing the Dream” program. The program, made possible by a grant from the Lilly Endowment Inc., recognizes first-generation college students from the 29 private, non-profit colleges and universities in Indiana. Martin was among 29 students selected to receive additional money toward completing their bachelor’s degrees. Kaiser, the educator Martin named as being the most influential in high school, also receives money for professional development. Congratulations to both of these incredible Huskies! This Saturday, five Hamilton Heights Middle School Robotics teams will compete at the 2024 Indiana VEX Robotics State Championship at Lucas Oil Stadium after successfully qualifying at various competitions held earlier this season. This is the seventh year in a row that HHMS has sent multiple teams to the state level competition. In fact, HHMS will have one of the most teams represented in the state competition this year! This competition does not disappoint and is well worth attending to see student innovation, teamwork, and robotics at its best!

Our spring break starts next week. Take the time to relax, rejuvenate, and enjoy the extra hour of daylight before we head into the home stretch of our final semester of the school year. As a reminder, our campus will be closed on Monday, April 8. We hope everyone can witness the eclipse taking place that day. See you back on campus on Tuesday, April 9.
