The people of Atlanta came out in droves last Sunday evening to help welcome the Christmas season with the annual Tree Lighting ceremony. Atlanta Clerk-Treasurer Jennifer Farley said the weather had cleared up just in time for the fun to begin.

“It is always nice seeing the community come together,” Farley said. “Residents enjoyed warming themselves by the fire and singing Christmas carols. The Christian church and Wesleyan church provided a meal along with treat bags. This year we added a live nativity with some of the Sunday school students.”

Farley thanked local businesses and volunteers for their work in creating a successful event.

“Mid-Indiana Marine and Johnson Woodworking also donated to help make it a success,” Farley said. “Town Council President Murry Dixon decorated the tree with nearly 7,000 lights. Andy Emmert and Luke Brown worked hard at installing our new permanent light polls that were made possible with a $1,000 donation from Duke Energy. We also received a $500 donation from Santa for our food pantry. We also have few faithful residents that always lend a hand. We are very thankful and blessed.”

Duke Energy Government and Community Relations Manager Mark LaBarr said the company was happy to help the town.

“We’re pleased to have made this investment in the Atlanta community, making Dolles Park a destination for residents and visitors to enjoy for years to come,” LaBarr said.
