Cross country: University get top three spots to win their own invitational

The University girls cross country team won its own University Invitational on Thursday.

The Trailblazers took the top three places, and six of the top 11 spots, to finish with 17 points. Kelley Trowbridge was the race winner, finishing in a time of 21 minutes, 27.6 seconds. Emily Comparini placed second in 22:16.1, followed by Laurel Gough-Mckeown in third with 22:31.0.

Kendall Booth was seventh (23:50.4), Polina Nix placed ninth (23:53.8) and Emma Laborsky finished 11th (24:06.). Lindsey Porter rounded out University’s top seven by taking 22nd place (26:20.3).

In the boys race, the Trailblazers finished as runner-up with 45 points. Horizon Christian won the team title with 26 points; Corban McGaughey was the race winner in 16:43.2.

University followed with the second- and third-place runners: Finlay Reid was the individual runner-up in 17:21.0, with Ben Gleason taking third in 17:29.0. Henry Wang placed 13th in 19:13.7.

Finishing out the UHS boys top seven were William Besinger (17th, 19:25.5), Mario Buoscio (18th, 19:38.8), Walter Wilson (19th, 19:38.8) and David Beaty (20th, 19:48.5).
