Crooked Stick hosts Dye Junior Invitational Tournament

The REPORTER

Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel hosted the Dye Junior Invitational Tournament early this week.

The tournament is named after Pete and Alice Dye, the renowned golf course designers who created Crooked Stick in 1964 and lived along the 18th fairway. Junior golf players from across the country – and three international players – competed at the event, which took place Monday and Tuesday.

Two local players competed at the event. Maya Fujisawa Keuling, an incoming sophomore at Carmel, tied for fifth in the Girls – Alice Dye Division. Fujisawa Keuling scored a 75-73-77=225 for the event, a round that included five birdies over the 54 holes.

Eli Wessel, a Guerin Catholic graduate, tied for 16th in the Boys – Pete Dye Division. Wessel scored 73-73-80=226; he made eight birdies and eagled the 15th hole twice in both of his first two rounds.

The tournament winners were Grant DeLorenzo of Houston in the Boys Division (even par 216) and Alexandra Phung of Forest Hills, N.Y. in the Girls Division (220).

In addition, there was a Mixed Four Ball tournament. Wessel played with Veronica Man of Coto De Caza, Calif. and placed 17th with 209. Fujisawa Keuling played with Landon Tropf of Gas City and placed 20th with 210.
