My friends over the years

Editor’s note: The Sheridan Student Column is brought to readers by Sheridan High School’s Accelerated English 9 class, taught by Ellie Arrowood.

When I first moved to Sheridan, I was in the third grade. Neither my family nor I knew anyone here, as we had moved from Lawrence and had lived in Michigan before that. The transition was fairly easy, and it wasn’t difficult to make friends. I like to help my friends out whenever I can, since they helped me settle in when I moved to Sheridan.

Here at Sheridan, I have stuck with mostly the same friend group. The people who were easiest to make friends with were those in the same class as me. I have occasionally lost and gained friends, either from them moving to/away from the school, or just no longer having the same interests. I can be friends with pretty much anyone, but I prefer if they have some things in common. For example, I enjoy going outside, which means I like to be friends with people who like to go outdoors.

My friends mean a lot to me, especially the ones from the start. They stuck with me through the rest of elementary school and all of middle school. There are a lot of cool things I have learned from my friends over the years. I appreciate having people to talk to and hang out with.

I believe that friends are important, and that everyone should have some. They bring joy to your life and can help you out in tough situations.
