Cicero Holiday Parade, Festival, Tree Lighting set for Saturday, Dec. 4

The annual Cicero Christmas parade, hosted by the Cicero Kiwanis Club, is another sign that the holiday season has arrived. In addition to the parade, be sure to spend the afternoon enjoying the many family-friendly activities as part of this year’s Cicero Christmas Festival presented by Our Town Cicero. Enjoy a DJ, games, cookie decorating, face painting, food and beverages, prizes, a movie, the tree lighting ceremony, and much more. The parade and festival are free and open to the public. Parade attendees are encouraged to bring a new toy for the Cicero Kiwanis Kings Treasure program. (Photo provided)

The Cicero Kiwanis Club and Our Town Cicero Mainstreet Association have teamed up to bring the community a special holiday event with all the magic of the season on Saturday, Dec. 4.

Please plan to participate and attend this family-friendly event that brings the greater Cicero area to life with a parade, movie, games, DJ, cookie decorating, face painting, food, prizes, and more. Santa will be on hand to hear children’s wish lists and share season’s greetings.

Jenkins

All civic groups, churches, and organizations along with clubs and businesses are invited to take part in the much-anticipated parade. Michael Jenkins has been named as this year’s parade Grand Marshal. Jenkins is president and CEO of HOPE Family Care Center in Cicero, former Hamilton Heights educator, and active community volunteer.  In fact, the Hamilton North Public Library named its new addition, The Michael E. Jenkins Wing, in honor of Mike’s years of impactful service to the community.

The parade begins and ends at the Hamilton North Public Library. Participation in the parade is free and open to the public. For an entry form, email cicerokiwanis@gmail.com.

Those participating in the parade will line up beginning at 1:15 p.m. by the Hamilton North Public Library with the parade starting at 2 p.m.  The festival runs from 3 to 6 p.m. with the showing of the movie Elf (next to the lawn by Santa’s House) beginning at 4 p.m., and tree lighting ceremony at 5:30 p.m. at the corner of Jackson and Short streets in Cicero.

Parade attendees are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy to help make Christmas a little brighter for children in the communities of Arcadia, Atlanta and Cicero who may not otherwise have much under their tree for the Cicero Kiwanis club’s Kings Treasure program. Santa’s elves will be present along the parade route to help collect toys to add to Santa’s sack of toys. Toy donations can also be dropped off at Beck’s Hybrids, Erika’s Restaurant, Cicero Market, Key Bank, First Farmers Bank, Hamilton North Public Library, Cicero Fire Department and Cicero Christian Church now through Dec. 10. All toys received will be wrapped and given out to these children at the annual King’s Treasure Christmas Party.

As part of the day’s festivities, the 10th annual Holiday Market Place returns to the Hamilton North Public Library, located at 209 W. Brinton St., from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Holiday Market Place features a variety of handcrafted, specialty and unique items that make for great gifts – just in time for Christmas. Santa will make a special visit for pictures, listen to Christmas wishes and spread a little Christmas cheer to children young and old. There will also be activities for children.
