‘Tis the Christmas season

By JANET HART LEONARD

From the Hart

‘Twas four weeks before Christmas and all through the house
Janet was scurrying, definitely not as quiet as a mouse.

She had her friend/elf Nina decorating the tree
With a promise of a hot Chai from Noble Coffee and Tea.

She dug into the tote filled with her snowmen and trees
Once tucked into their place, Janet’s heart would be pleased.

Near her Christmas tree, on a table, the Nativity Scene was placed for a reason
That all who would visit would be reminded of Jesus’ birth and why we celebrate the season.

Cranberry Tea candles from the Apple Butter Barn gave a scent so suggestive
Of Hope, Faith and Joy for the season and all that makes it so festive.

Flickering lights tucked into scenes that would make Hallmark proud
Janet hoped that her décor would captivate her Christmas crowd.

Snow scenes and Redbirds were placed here and there
Remembering past Christmases and the ones who have left an empty chair.

Chuck’s wooden Christmas projects were arranged on the kitchen window’s ledge
Gifts to his wife and others, to whom his love he continues to pledge.

While Janet wears no kerchief and Chuck wears no cap
They look forward to a football game and a long afternoon nap.

When what to their wandering eyes should appear
But lights not working on the tree…just what they did fear.

It’s Black Friday and off to the store Janet went in a dash
Hoping that no lines would be waiting, as the store took her cash.

Please, lights be matching what was pre-lit on the tree
Yes, they did, so take that, Grinch, fiddle-dee-dee.

Gifts and stocking stuffers are bought from Thistle and Thyme,
Vintage décor and antiques, Janet finds there, give her home a unique design.

As the day lingered on and Janet’s elf, Nina, left her alone
Janet sighed so exhausted but happy with the look of her home.

The bright moon looked below to the ground that would soon be covered in snow
A Merry Christmas at The Little House on the Alley Janet and Chuck would now know.

My apologies to Clement Clarke Moore.

I had fun writing this, but it was definitely a challenge.

Finding words that would rhyme, and tell a story as well, takes quite a talent.

(I confess, it actually takes searching Google.)

I hope you find the next four weeks to bring many smiles to your face as well as your heart.

Wishing all my readers a very Merry Christmas Season from Chuck and me!

And to all a Good Night!
