Carmel’s own Allison Shen wins $1,000 Youth Service Award scholarship

Carmel High School senior Allison Shen was awarded a $1,000 scholarship at the 34th annual Hamilton County Youth Service Award on Monday, May 11. The Hamilton County Commissioners and the Hamilton County Council on Alcohol and Other Drugs (HCCOAOD) sponsored the award.

Shen is the founder of Infinity Squared Mathematics, a global nonprofit that provides resources and mentorship to underserved students. She is also an adjunct research associate with the Indiana University Department of Biostatistics where she contributes to research on diabetes and Alzheimer’s. On top of that, Shen is also president of the school’s Math and Chemistry Clubs and a student representative for Riley Children’s Hospital Dance Marathon.

Six additional students were nominated for the Youth Service Award by their school counseling departments. The other nominees include Josslyn Lee of Fishers High School, Melanee Forrester of Hamilton Heights High School, Mason McDonald of Hamilton Southeastern High School, Molly Sivertsen of Noblesville High School, Norah Stites of Sheridan High School, and Katelyn Bolduc of Westfield High School. Each will receive a $300 scholarship.
