The League of American Bicyclists has recognized Carmel with a Silver Bicycle Friendly Business (BFB) Designation, earning the city a place alongside more than 1,100 designees across the country contributing to the movement to build a more Bicycle Friendly America for everyone.

“From everyday encouragement to broader advocacy, Bicycle Friendly Businesses like the City of Carmel help build a culture where more people feel welcome to get rolling,” said Bill Nesper, executive director of the League of American Bicyclists.

Carmel joins government agencies, Fortune 500 companies, museums, hospitality establishments, bike shops, and other employers across the nation united in a commitment to transform the nation’s workplaces to be more welcoming to both customers and employees who bike. The Bicycle Friendly Business award recognizes an organization’s contributions in shifting up and accelerating the movement to build a Bicycle Friendly America for everyone.

Previously awarded the Bronze Bicycle Friendly Business Designation from the League, Carmel has enhanced its designation and support of cycling by continuing its annual bike-to-work day event and multiple community biking events, while adding additional bike parking spaces at City Hall and offering city employees a free annual Carmel bike share membership.

“I’m thrilled the League of American Bicyclists awarded Carmel this designation,” Mayor Sue Finkam said. “It demonstrates our commitment to make biking an easy way for our residents, visitors and team members to experience our wonderful city.”

As part of the BFB network, Carmel will have access to a variety of tools and technical assistance from the League to become even more welcoming to people who bike.
