Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation (CCPR)’s Extended School Enrichment (ESE) students will join thousands in celebrating Lights on Afterschool today, Oct. 23. Hosted by the Afterschool Alliance, this annual event shines a light on the vital role afterschool programs play in helping students grow both personally and academically.

“Our program gives students a place to learn, create and connect after school,” ESE Director Jennifer Brown said. “We’re proud to provide these opportunities while giving parents and caregivers peace of mind knowing their children are safe and supported.”

Since its founding in 2000, Lights on Afterschool has brought together families, educators and communities nationwide to celebrate programs that keep kids safe, inspire them to learn and support working families.

ESE has provided afterschool care for the Carmel Clay community for nearly 20 years. Through its partnership with Carmel Clay Schools, CCPR offers ESE at 11 elementary schools across Carmel. Each day, students explore a variety of clubs and activities – ranging from STEM and art to sports and other hands-on activities – that encourage curiosity and lifelong learning.
