Boys soccer: Carmel begins with statement victories

The Carmel boys soccer team was unranked when the pre-season polls came out.

That will change very quickly. The Greyhounds opened their season Saturday, Aug. 16 with a 3-0 road victory at Class 3A No. 5 Zionsville, then followed that victory up with a 2-1 win over Pike on Monday.

Carmel had three separate goal scorers in its win against the Eagles: senior Troy Enslin, sophomore Jet Truitt and senior Quinn Wu all found the back of the net. Senior Evan Bardos, junior Max Householder and junior Mikey Kubek each made one assist.

Enslin also scored in the Greyhounds’ victory over the Red Devils, with senior Curtis Droste also getting a goal. Senior Xander Dora and Wu both had one assist.

Carmel is 2-0 and hosts Greenfield-Central on Tuesday.

Fishers began its season Saturday with a 3-2 Hoosier Crossroads Conference win over Franklin Central.

Senior Andres Artigas, junior Valentino Lapitz and senior Austin Geesaman all scored one goal for the 3A No. 6 Tigers, who recovered from a 2-1 halftime deficit to win. Junior Santiago Garcia made one assist.

Fishers beat 3A No. 17 Westfield 5-1 on Tuesday in another HCC game. Stats were not available at press time. The Shamrocks fell to 3A No. 12 Cathedral 1-0 in their opener Saturday.

Westfield plays at Pike on Thursday, while the Tigers play Saturday at West Lafayette.

Guerin Catholic began its season with two big wins.

The Golden Eagles beat Pendleton Heights 4-1 Saturday, then defeated 2A No. 2 Park Tudor on Tuesday.

Guerin Catholic hosts 2A No. 19 Heritage Christian on Thursday.

Hamilton Southeastern, the No. 2 team in 3A, started its season Saturday with a 4-1 victory over Mt. Vernon.

Senior Nick Kestian scored two goals for the Royals and also dished out one assist. Senior Jack Barnes and junior Jonathan Ramos-Perez both added one goal. Junior Cooper Perez made two assists and junior Bennett Young had one assist.

Southeastern played to a 1-1 tie with Cathedral on Tuesday. The Irish led 1-0 at halftime, but Barnes scored in the second half to tie the game.

The Royals are 1-0-1 and host Guerin Catholic Saturday, Aug. 23.
