Noblesville’s boys finished strong at Carmel on Friday night, pulling away in the second half to win 59-34 at the Eric Clark Activity Center.
The Millers cruised through the first quarter, which finished with Noblesville leading 16-5. Aaron Fine led the way, pouring in 11 points. The Greyhounds stormed back in the second period, scoring the first 11 points of the quarter to tie it at 16-16 before the Millers took a 24-22 halftime lead. Mitchell Mulloy stepped up for Carmel in the second with eight points, while Alex Couto scored five.
Noblesville opened the second half with its own 9-0 run. The spurt included two 3-pointers from Justin Curry. Fine added five points, including a traditional three-point play to finish the run. The Millers led 42-28 after three, then poured in another 17 in the fourth quarter.
“I thought we played really well in the second half,” said Noblesville coach Scott McClelland. “Aaron had a really nice game tonight.”
McClelland also praised Curry for his second-half play, including his defense.
“I challenged him at halftime, he really responded,” said McClelland.
Fine finished with 18 points, while Curry scored 12 on four 3-pointers. Fine also delivered seven assists and pulled five rebounds. Hunter Walston hit a pair of fourth-quarter 3s and collected five rebounds. He and Will Smits both scored eight points. Aiden Brewer had two blocked shots.
“We just got contributions from everybody tonight,” said McClelland. “I thought we got huge contributions from Will Smits and Luke Etchison. Baron Walker came in and provided a nice spark. Hunter Walston played a lot better, did what he could do in the second half.”
Mulloy and Evan Harrell both scored eight points, with Harrell getting six rebounds.
Noblesville is 3-1 and plays Crispus Attucks this afternoon at the Forum Tipoff Classic at the Southport Fieldhouse. The game starts at 5:20 p.m. Carmel is 2-2 and travels to Crown Point tonight for a 7 p.m. game.
