‘Blazers sail to Sectional 43 final

The University girls cruised to Tuesday night’s Sectional 43 championship at Western Boone with a 61-29 win over Covenant Christian.
University will face Park Tudor at 7 p.m. as they attempt to win their fourth sectional championship in the last five years.
The second half of Saturday’s game was played with a running clock after University led 45-9 at halftime. The Trailblazers substituted liberally throughout the contest with all 12 players seeing action and 10 scoring.
Payton Seay led University in scoring with 15 points. Kelsey DuBois had 11, Taylor Seay had eight points and Patty Chikamba added seven.
The Blazers started slow and the game was tied at 2 after three minutes. University then scored eight points in 21 seconds to break the game open. Jordan Patterson made a corner three pointer off a pass from Payton Seay. Payton Seay had an old fashioned three point play after Chikamba stole the ball. Patterson then made two foul shots after a technical foul on the Covenant Christian bench.
Taylor Seay completed University’s 10-0 run with an assist from Alex Feeney. After a Warrior basket, University scored the last 14 points of the first quarter to lead 26-4 after one period. Taylor and Payton Seay each had six points in the first quarter and Patterson had five.
A Payton Seay rebound basket and a DuBois basket completed University’s 18 point run and a 30-4 lead. University closed the second quarter by scoring the last 12 points going to halftime. Payton Seay had seven in the second quarter with DuBois adding six.
Abby Hannon led University in rebounds with six. DuBois and Payton Seay each corralled five missed shots.
University had assists on 16 of their 23 field goals. Chikamba led with four helpers, with Emily Adamowicz and Payton Seay added three each.
The Trailblazers had 25 steals. Chikamba added to her school record for steals in a season with five. Feeney and DuBois had four steals each.
Covenant Christian junior Gabriella Crane had a game-high 17 points.
University will take a 20-4 record in to Tuesday’s championship. Covenant Christian bows out at 5-17.
