A legendary name in the history of Sheridan basketball is coming home to coach his alma mater.
Bill Bowen was announced as the new boys basketball coach for the Blackhawks on Thursday in a tweet from “Blackhawk Nation,” the account of the Sheridan High School athletic department. Bowen will be the new coach pending board approval.
Bowen graduated from Sheridan in 1971. He is part of the 1,000-point club, having scored 1,040 points during his career and is also a member of the Hamilton County Basketball Hall of Fame.
Bowen has also had a successful run as a longtime coach. He was the head coach at Hamilton Heights from 1991 to 2007, leading the Huskies to a sectional championship in 2003. Bowen has spent the last six years as the Tri-Central head coach, putting together a 15-8 season in 2019-20 and a 13-9 campaign in 2021-22.
