Back-and-forth action ends with Eagles beating Millers

Noblesville kept pace with host Zionsville on Friday night before falling to the Eagles 35-28 in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game.

Zionsville led 7-0 after one quarter, but Ty Holmes tied it up with a two-yard run in the second quarter. The Millers and the Eagles went back and forth in that period; Brody Gump tied the game again with a 71-yard run to the end zone, but Zionsville scored on a kickoff return from 39 yards, giving them a 20-14 halftime lead.

Noblesville went ahead 21-20 after three quarters. Israel Oladipupo made a one-yard run to tie the game, then Caden Lydle made the extra point to put the Millers ahead.

The Eagles answered in the fourth quarter with back-to-back touchdowns on short runs. Gump kept the Millers in it with another long touchdown run, 73 yards to the end zone, but Zionsville held on for the win.

Gump totaled 173 yards rushing, while Lydle made all four extra-point kicks. Oladipupo led the defense with eight tackles, including a sack.

Noblesville is 0-3 in conference play and 2-3 overall. The Millers return home next Friday to host Franklin Central.
