Town will break ground for new pocket park in early 2026

The Town of Arcadia is partnering with MIBOR REALTOR® Association to use a $7,500 Placemaking Grant from the National Association of REALTORS® to help create a pocket park in downtown in 2026.

“We are so grateful to MIBOR and the National Association of REALTORS,” Arcadia Clerk-Treasurer Jennifer Pickett said. “Thanks to them and a $2,500 grant from Duke Energy, we can get started on this project in early 2026.”

Arcadia does not have a public, permanent outdoor gathering space in its downtown for residents and visitors to enjoy year-round.

“We have the perfect location across from town hall on Main Street,” Pickett said. “Residents and visitors flock to the Santa House on this spot during the holidays.”

Arcadia will use the grant funds for two picnic tables plus a wheelchair-accessible picnic table; a trash can and a recycle bin; two benches; and paved accessible paths.

The town is still working to secure grants and other donations for the project, as the total cost is over $21,000. Future plans include a mural and a gazebo.
