THE REPORTER

The Noblesville girls track and field team won its third consecutive regional championship Tuesday at Lafayette Jefferson.

The Millers once again dominated the field events, and got solid performances on the track to score 94 points. Carmel was the runner-up with 83 points, although the Greyhounds got several wins – regional-record wins, to be exact.

Noblesville picked up four event victories, including a 1-2 finish in the high jump. Malina Miller soared to first place with a jump of 5 feet, 10 inches, well ahead of second place. The runner-up was her teammate, Rylee Hassan, who jumped 5 feet, 5 inches.

Hannah Alexander continued her mastery of the throwing events, sweeping the discus and the shot put. She won the discus in a new regional record of 151 feet, 4 inches and the shot put in 41 feet, 6 inches. Summer Rempe picked up a victory for the Millers on the track, taking the 800 run in 2 minutes, 13.38 seconds.

The top three in each event advance to the IHSAA state finals, which take place next weekend at Indiana University. Other Noblesville qualifiers are the 4×800 relay team of Brinkley Cooper, Ansley Applegate, Riley Flynn and Rempe, which placed second, Delaney Teachnor, the pole vault runner-up, and Paige Hazelrigg, who took third in the 1600 run.

The Greyhounds began the meet by setting a new record in the 4×800 relay. The team of Olivia Cebalo, Jasmine Klopstad, Kara Wenzler and Audrey Ricketts clocked in at 9:12.32.

That was the first of four wins for Carmel. Sadie Foley took the 1600 in 4:57.50, Emily Norris won the 200 dash in 24.78 seconds, and the Greyhounds’ 4×400 relay squad of Gabriela Grande Rosas, Cebalo, Cambell Wamsley and Norris finished the meet with a new record in that race, 3:51.26.

Norris took seconds in the 100 dash, qualifying her for state. She also made it to state as part of the 4×100 relay team, joining Rebecca Belanger, D’ahni Branch and Grande Rosas to take third. Grande Rosas also advanced in the long jump, placing third.

Cebalo qualified in the 400 dash by taking second in that event. Wamsley finished fifth, but her time of 57.47 seconds was ahead of the state standard, which means she automatically advances to state.

Hamilton Southeastern scored 72 points to take fourth as a team. The Royals had several runner-up finishes, sending them to state: Elizabeth Butler in the 1600, Ciara Kepner in the 800, Elia Blackmore in the 300 hurdles, and the 4×400 relay team of Kepner, Sanai Smith, Camryn McKinney and Chloe Senefeld.

Makenzie Loftin placed third in the 100 hurdles for a spot at state, as did Maggie Powers in the 3200. In addition, the Royals’ fifth-place 4×800 relay team of Addison Smith, Julianne McLean, Elise Herman and Powers finished in 9:24.41, ahead of the state standard. Riley Williams placed fourth in the pole vault, but her leap of 12 feet was over the standard, so she is on to state.

Westfield scored 47.5 points and had two event winners. Lucy Hauser took first in the 100 hurdles (14.75 seconds), then Princess Campbell cruised to victory in the 100 dash (11.89 seconds).

Fishers totaled 38 points. The Tigers got a great performance from their 4×100 relay team: Mireya Benjamin, Zinnia Pineda, Kya Hoskins and Maya Taylor finished a close second to Brownsburg. Fishers clocked in at 47.33 seconds, just behind the Bulldogs’ 47.32 seconds. Both times are under the old regional record.

Taylor also qualified for state in the 100 and 200 dashes, placing third in both events.

Hamilton Heights had two state qualifiers. Ella Ewing placed second in the 100 hurdles, while Waverly Woolever took third in the high jump.

In addition to the automatic qualifiers, some of the performances may be good enough to earn callbacks to state. Those will be determined later today.
