Hamilton Southeastern Schools accepting applications for community engagement program

Hamilton Southeastern Schools is accepting applications for the 2026-27 HSEngaged cohort, a community engagement program designed to provide participants with a comprehensive, behind-the-scenes look at the operations of one of Indiana’s largest school districts.

The program brings together parents, residents, business owners and community leaders interested in learning more about public education and the work that supports more than 20,000 HSE students.

Since its launch in 2021, HSEngaged has provided participants with direct access to district leaders and staff through monthly sessions focused on topics such as academics, school finance, student services, school safety, transportation, facilities, and communications.

Participants selected for the 2026-27 cohort will attend monthly meetings from August through April at schools throughout the district.

“HSEngaged gives community members a chance to see beyond the headlines and gain a deeper understanding of the work happening across our schools,” said Emily Pace Abbotts, Director of School and Community Relations at HSE Schools. “Participants hear directly from district leaders, visit our schools and engage in conversations that help build informed and meaningful connections to HSE Schools.”

Applications are due by noon on Tuesday, July 7, and participation is limited.

Recent participant feedback includes:

• “It is encouraging to see what HSE is doing for our children. This is a wonderful program.”
• “I learned a lot through HSEngaged and have used the information I gained in conversations throughout the community to help others better understand school-related issues.”

Applicants will be notified of their status by July 31.
