On Wednesday, June 17, The Farmers Bank celebrated its 150th anniversary, marking a century and a half of service, trust, and commitment to the communities it calls home.
Founded on June 17, 1876, in downtown Frankfort, Ind., The Farmers Bank opened its doors at a time when Rutherford B. Hayes was preparing to become President of the United States, the telephone had just been invented, and America was celebrating its Centennial.
Over the past 150 years, the bank has witnessed extraordinary changes in technology, transportation, commerce, and society, while remaining steadfast in its commitment to helping individuals, families, businesses, and communities thrive.
A legacy 150 years in the making
What began as a local community bank serving Clinton County has grown into a financial institution with more than $1 billion in assets, serving customers across central Indiana. Through generations of economic growth, national challenges, world-changing events, and community milestones, The Farmers Bank has remained rooted in the belief that banking is ultimately about people.
The significance of the milestone is difficult to overstate. Over the course of 54,785 days, The Farmers Bank has helped customers purchase homes, start businesses, grow farms, save for college, prepare for retirement, and navigate life’s most important moments. The institution has also invested millions of dollars and countless volunteer hours into supporting local organizations, schools, nonprofits, and community initiatives throughout central Indiana.
“One hundred fifty years is an extraordinary achievement, but this milestone is not about the bank itself. It is about the people who have made it possible,” The Farmers Bank President and CEO Chris Cook said. “Every customer who entrusted us with their financial future, every employee who chose to serve others, every director who provided leadership, and every community that welcomed us has played a role in this story. While much has changed since 1876, our purpose remains the same: to care, educate, serve, and inspire. We are deeply grateful for the trust placed in us over the past 150 years and honored to celebrate this historic day alongside the communities we proudly serve.”
