April 3, 1945 – May 17, 2023
Dixie Ann Davis,78, Arcadia, passed away on May 17, 2023, at Carmel Health & Living in Carmel.
She was born April 3, 1945, in Noblesville to Albert & Nellie (Cain) VanMeter. During her youth she lived in Jackson Township and graduated from Jackson Central High School with the Class of 1963. After graduating she married the love of her life, Ronald Eugene Davis, and began her new role as homemaker. They were blessed with two daughters, Rhonda Lee Davis Fowler and Debbie Davis, both of Arcadia; and a son, Jeff Davis, who preceded her in death.
Dixie worked for several years as a teacher’s aide and also in the cafeteria of Hamilton Heights Elementary School. Dixie was a natural with children. She liked to help them with learning and encouragement. In her job in the cafeteria, she often took their lunch tickets with a warm smile and greeting. And when they would see her outside of school, the children would call her name and wave to her, wanting to be recognized by her. She was special to them, and they were also special to her.
Dixie loved being outdoors, and at times she would drive through the country just to savor the beauty of the land. She loved to care for her yard, which included mowing and caring for her flowers. She also loved to read on her front porch so she could be outdoors. She dearly loved her family and looked forward to their family gatherings.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Eugene Davis; son, Jeff Davis; grandson, Korey Fowler; sister, Peggy Sowers; and brothers, Max VanMeter and Richard VanMeter.
Surviving her are two daughters, Rhonda Lee (Terry) Davis Fowler and Debbie Davis; grandchildren, Chad Davis, Ashley Soultz, Brittany Davis, and Kyle Fowler; and great-grandchildren, Maggie, William, Noah, and Emma.
