Carmel student dies following crash

The Carmel Police Department announced that Michael Jent, 16, Carmel, passed away the morning of Sunday, Jan. 8 from injuries he sustained in a crash that occurred early last Friday morning.

At approximately 5:19 a.m. last Friday, Carmel police responded to a report of a vehicle that had crashed into the Olivia on Main building on the southwest corner of Main Street and Old Meridian. Jent was seriously injured in the crash and was transported to an area hospital. The crash was not believed to be intentional. Jent was the only occupant of the vehicle.

Carmel High School encourages any students who are struggling at home to dial 988 to access a 24-hour hotline to talk to a live counselor. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the Jent family as well as the students and staff of Carmel High School as they continue to process this tragic loss.
