Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) contractor Weddle Brothers Highway Group LLC. plans to begin work on the overpass bridge at U.S. 31 and 161st Street on or after 9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12, with work continuing through 6 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 15.

Starting on Friday, the 161st St. bridge over U.S. 31 will close to traffic for a thin deck overlay. The official detour route for eastbound and westbound traffic on 161st Street will be:

  • Westbound 161st Street to South Union Street to East 156th Street to Oak Ridge Road back to 161st Street
  • Eastbound 161st Street to Oak Ridge Road to East 156th Street to South Union Street back to 161st Street

The $588,000 contract was awarded to Weddle Brothers Highway Group LLC. in October 2021. INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, use caution and remain vigilant of workers and equipment in active construction zones. All work is weather-dependent, and schedules are subject to change.
