Softball sectionals: Carmel, Noblesville advance to Sectional 8 title game

The Carmel and Noblesville softball teams both advanced to the championship game of Class 4A Sectional 8 on Tuesday with semi-final wins at Fishers.
In the first game, the Greyhounds defeated Zionsville 6-1. The Eagles scored their run in the top of the first inning, but Carmel answered with a solo home run from Elsa Morrison in the bottom of the first.
The ‘Hounds then took control in the second inning, scoring their other five runs. Ella Ohrvall tripled in Jessica Remm, then Lily Sullivan’s left field hit scored Ohrvall. Kylie Cunningham later blasted a three-run double to send in Hope McDonald, Alex Longstreth and Sullivan.
Cunningham and Ohrvall both had two hits. Paxton Law got the pitching win.
Noblesville won the second semi-final game by beating host Fishers 2-0.
The Millers scored their first run in the third inning when Bella Schatko got home on an error. Delaney Rundle got Noblesville another run in the fourth inning when she scored after Kira Thomas reached on error.
Lulu Van Beek pitched a complete game for the win, allowing only one hit.
Hannah Abbott got the hit for the Tigers. Kate Murray also pitched a complete game, striking out four and allowing four hits. Fishers finished its season 9-15.
Carmel (16-9) and Noblesville (15-12) will play the championship game at 6 p.m. tonight, weather permitting.

Hamilton Heights dropped a 2-0 game to Yorktown Tuesday in first-round play at Class 3A Sectional 24 at Delta.
The Tigers did not allow the Huskies a hit. Lily Roush pitched a complete game, striking out 11 and allowing only four hits.
Heights finished its season 9-15.

Sheridan fell 11-0 in five innings Tuesday to Class 1A Sectional 54 host Rossville.
Jacquellynne Bates had the Blackhawks’ lone hit. Sheridan finished the season 4-16.
“It was a learning experience, for sure,” said Brittany Gossard, who completed her first year as head coach of the Blackhawks. “We’ve got a lot of growth ahead of us and a lot more learning to do.”

University fell to Class 1A Sectional 58 host Bethesda Christian 15-2 in first-round play on Tuesday.
