Softball: Royals beat Millers

Hamilton Southeastern won an all-county and Hoosier Crossroads Conference softball game with Noblesville 9-6 Monday at the Royals’ field.
The Millers scored the first run, when Scout Duplaga led off the top of the second inning with a home run. When the Royals came up to bat in the bottom of the inning, Payton Fox led off with a homer. Later, Reece Garland smaked a three-run home run into right field, also scoring Jenna Chase and Paige Gould.
Noblesville got two runs in the top of the third; Gabby Fowler cracked a two-run double to send Lauren DeRolf and Reis Sjoholm in to score. Southeastern put up another four runs in the bottom of the third Fox singled in Taylor Larson, Maddie Bucher got home on Morgan Hicks’ RBI groundout, Gould batted in Fox and Lani Wyrick singled Gould home.
The Millers’ Taylor Thompson hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning, also scoring Erin Clark. The Royals got another run in the sixth inning; Bucher scored when Laila Wanza reached on error. Fowler hit a lead-off home run in the top of the seventh for Noblesville.
Fox hit a double for the Royals, giving her a 3-for-4 night at the plate. Sage Ladig was the winning pitcher. Fowler was also 3-for-4.
On Tuesday, Southeastern beat Franklin Central 19-9 in a six-inning HCC game. The Flashes jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first inning, but the Royals worked their way back into the game, taking the lead in the fifth inning by scoring five runs. The Royals then ran away with the contest in the sixth inning by putting up eight runs. Tessa Sexauer hit a two-run home run to end the game on the run-rule.
Sexauer scored five runs on a 3-for-3 night. Lani Wyrick and Taylor Larson both had three hits, with Larson batting in five runs. Wyrick, Larson and Emma Vance all scored three runs. Tori Donato got the pitching win.
Noblesville also won a Tuesday HCC game, beating Zionsville 12-5.
The Millers scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Duplaga hit another home run, also sending Sjoholm and DeRolf in to score. Kira Thomas scored when Bella Schatko reached on error.
Noblesville’s next two runs came in the fourth inning; Duplaga’s two-run hit send Sjoholm and Thompson home. The Millers then added five runs in the fifth. Aidan Gates doubled in Thomas, DeRolf’s center field hit scored Schatko and Gates, then Fowler blasted a two-run homer, also scoring DeRolf. Gates hit another double in the sixth inning to send Nievah Nash home.
Lulu Van Beek got the pitching win.
Southeastern is 13-10 and plays this afternoon at Mount Vernon. Noblesville is 12-12 and finishes its regular season Thursday at North Central.
