Indiana keeps gas tax suspension through Oct. 6

Gov. Mike Braun on Thursday extended Indiana’s gas tax holiday for a sixth consecutive month.

Braun suspended the gasoline excise and usage taxes, saving Hoosiers about an estimated 60 cents per gallon at the pump. He says he will reevaluate the taxes Oct. 6.

“Affordability is my top priority, and my gas tax suspensions are delivering the cheapest gas in America for Hoosiers,” Gov. Braun said at a news conference Thursday in Clarksville. “I’m keeping those savings going for Hoosier families. My recommended budget will tap our reserves to keep state and local infrastructure projects fully funded.”

Braun first suspended the gasoline usage tax in April and expanded the relief in May to include the gasoline excise tax. He continued the suspension to provide Hoosier families extra breathing room at the pump while protecting funding for state and local infrastructure projects.

“I am very proud of the fact that Indiana has had the lowest gas prices in the U.S. since April,” Braun said.

Gasoline prices rose across the United States after the war in Iran began. AAA reported the average U.S. gas price was under $3 per gallon in February. As of Sept. 3, AAA says the average price is $4.14.
