Did you know that Sheridan has a D&D Club?

Editor’s note: The Sheridan Student Column is brought to readers by Sheridan High School’s Accelerated English 9 class, taught by Ellie Arrowood.

D&D is a tabletop roleplaying game where one of four to six people are the storyteller or Dungeon Master. The other three to five people each play a character of one class out of 13 total.

You can get stronger by leveling up in your character’s class or gaining a level in a different one. There are 20 levels total. Level 1 is basically a normal guy; Level 20 is basically a god. You play D&D by rolling a 4-, 6-, 8-, 10-, 12-, or 20-sided die to decide how the game plays, such as if an attack hits.

My only experience playing D&D as of now is DMing a one-shot, because the original DM was late and then missed it entirely. Notable events include one of my friend’s characters almost being taken out by a 5-year-old with his own attack, and another person spent half an hour on one turn to maximize the turn value. That friend’s character stood out to me because it was an Elf who was a Level 6 Sorcerer and Level 6 Blood Hunter. Its backstory is that their parents were killed by Poseidon, and they have spent their whole life searching for him to pay him for it.

I’m excited about just playing the game; two members of the club were excited to DM, and another player is excited to show play as their character again.

The club’s role at Sheridan is to be a niche activity for some of the less represented types of students to find new friends and an activity they like.
