New collection focused on the interests of teens & tweens
The Westfield Washington Public Library (WWPL) is expanding its popular Library of Things with the launch of a new Teen Library of Things, a collection of hands-on kits designed to spark creativity, exploration, and lifelong learning for teens.
Building on the success of the WWPL’s Library of Things collections for children and adults, the Teen Library of Things offers teens the opportunity to discover new hobbies, develop practical skills and explore their interests through hands-on experiences. The new collection includes a variety of kits for those interested in drawing, SAT prep, board games, escape rooms, and photography kit.
“When selecting the kits for the Teen Library of Things, we wanted to create a collection that reflects the interests of today’s teens while encouraging creativity, curiosity, and lifelong learning,” WWPL Teen Room Supervisor Mindi Glenn said. “Our hope is that every teen can find something that inspires them to try something new without having to purchase the materials themselves.”
Located in the Teen Department on the second floor, patrons may browse the Teen Library of Things in person or online. Teen library cardholders may check out one Teen Library of Things kit at a time for one week.
The Westfield Library Foundation provided the funding for the new collection. Executive Director Erin Downey says it’s important to make learning accessible beyond traditional books.
“We’re excited to help bring the Teen Library of Things to life and make these hands-on learning opportunities available to teens in our community,” she said.
