Three films at Indy Shorts festival feature local talent

Heartland Film’s ninth annual Academy Award®-Qualifying Indy Shorts Film Festival presented by TQL Wealth Management, runs July 21 to 26. Indy Shorts will showcase 266 short films with screenings at the Indy Art Center, Living Room Theaters and Newfields. Many of the short films will also be available to stream.

The festival will feature short films from 46 countries and include 37 World Premieres, 31 U.S. Premieres and 117 Midwest Premieres. There are also three Indiana Spotlight programs featuring 21 short films with Hoosier connections. In total, more than 250 filmmakers are expected to attend Indy Shorts to participate in filmmaker Q&As following the screenings.

Three of the short films involve people from Hamilton County:

“On The Stream”
Indiana Spotlight 2 Program

• The subject of the film lives in Carmel.
• Synopsis: Al White is an Indiana fly fisherman whose time on the river becomes a reflection on life. After a turbulent youth, Al finds peace in fly fishing and discovers that the water can be a place of healing.
• Directed by Grant Michael.

“Pursuit of Perfection – The INDY 500 with Conor Daly”
Indiana Spotlight 3 Program

• Conor Daly, the subject of the film, is from Noblesville.
• Synopsis: As hometown hero Conor Daly chases an elusive Indianapolis 500 victory, “Pursuit of Perfection” pulls viewers behind the curtain of racing’s biggest stage, capturing the pressure, chaos, heartbreak, and hope that define life inside the Greatest Spectacle in Racing.
• Directed by JD Groh.

“Sylvia”
Indiana Spotlight 3 Program

• Co-Directed by Ashton Gleckman, who lives in Carmel, and Sam Mirpoorian, who lives in Fishers.
• Synopsis: Friends, family, and members of the community reflect on the life of Sylvia Likens 60 years after her murder in Indianapolis.
