Hounds return to state finals

The Carmel girls tennis team is back in the state finals for the first time in three years.

The No. 3-ranked Greyhounds claimed the Culver Academies 1 semi-state championship on Saturday, May 30, beating No. 12-ranked South Bend St. Joseph 4-1. Carmel swept the doubles, with No. 1 Gabby Hall and Madison Littell winning 6-1, 6-3 and No. 2 Brylie Price and Shravya Pillutls cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 victory.

In singles, No. 2 Alexia Widjaja won a tough 7-5, 7-6 match while No. 3 Annie Mann was a 6-1, 6-1 winner. No. 1 singles Olivia Widjaja dropped another tough match, 7-6, 6-4 to Libby Yergler.

Carmel plays No. 5 Center Grove at 10 a.m. Friday in the state quarterfinals at North Central’s Barbara Wynne Tennis Center. The host Trojans swept No. 14 Fishers 5-0 to win semi-state.
