Boys volleyball sectional: Carmel, Fishers advance to semis

The Carmel and Fishers boys volleyball teams advanced to Saturday’s Sectional 8 semifinals with quarterfinal victories on Thursday.

The Greyhounds beat host Hamilton Southeastern in four sets in the evening’s first match. The set scores were 27-25, 20-25, 25-22, 25-21.

Eli Philistin-Lynch dominated the offense with 25 kills and two aces, while Thomas Kuehl put down 14 kills. Dylan Kaiser served three aces and Shepard Spidel dished out 50 assists. Philistin-Lynch and Jett Burke both collected 15 digs and Kuehl scooped up 13 digs.

Southeastern stats were not available at press time. The Royals finished their season 19-8.

Fishers won the second match, sweeping Guerin Catholic 25-22, 25-17, 25-17. Stats from that match were not available. The Golden Eagles finished their season 12-12.

Carmel improved to 24-6, while the Tigers are 15-15. The teams will face off in Saturday’s second semifinal, which begins after the day’s first semifinal between Westfield and Noblesville. Action begins at 11 a.m., with the winners advancing to the 6 p.m. sectional championship.
