Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness launches Mayor’s Youth Service Awards program

Submitted by City of Fishers

Mayor Scott Fadness announced last Friday, April 24 the launch of the Mayor’s Youth Service Awards program, a new initiative designed to encourage junior high and high school students to give back to the Fishers community through volunteerism and civic engagement.

The Mayor’s Youth Service Awards recognize students who dedicate their time to serving others through qualified nonprofits and approved community partners, including local service organizations, schools, and neighborhood programs. Eligible students must be Fishers residents enrolled in a public, private, or home school program. Volunteer hours may be accrued beginning at age 13 through high school graduation.

“Serving others is one of the most impactful ways our young residents can shape their community,” Mayor Fadness said. “This program not only recognizes that commitment but also helps instill a lifelong passion for civic engagement.”

Students will be recognized at various levels based on the number of volunteer hours completed:

  • Bronze (50 to 99 hours): Certificate of Civic Leadership
  • Silver (100 to 149 hours): Certificate of Civic Leadership and lapel pin
  • Gold (150 to 199 hours): Certificate of Civic Leadership, lapel pin, and graduation cord
  • Platinum (200 to 299 hours): Certificate of Civic Leadership, lapel pin, graduation cord, and a letter of commendation from Mayor Scott Fadness
  • Diamond (more than 300 hours): Certificate of Civic Leadership, lapel pin, graduation cord, letter of commendation, recognition on the city’s social media account(s), and breakfast with Mayor Scott Fadness

Students can register for the program by visiting FishersIN.gov/MYSA and creating an account through Volunteer Fishers. Students already registered with Volunteer Fishers can transfer previously completed volunteer hours toward the award.

With volunteer opportunities available year-round, students can earn service hours at any level of commitment. Several upcoming opportunities provide a great starting point for those interested in participating this spring and beyond:
