MaryAnn Zaiger

October 7, 1934 – March 24, 2026

MaryAnn “Tootsie” Zaiger, 91, Carmel, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2026. She was born October 7, 1934, in St. Louis, Mo. Even though Carmel became home, MaryAnn remained a St. Louis person at heart throughout her life.

Devoted completely to her family, MaryAnn was unwavering in her care, dedication, and love as she was the heart of her home. Putting others first was natural and easy.

A devout Catholic, MaryAnn’s faith was an important part of her life. She also enjoyed playing volleyball, was a Barry Manilow fan since the 1970s, and was known for her vibrant personality and wonderful sense of humor, which brought joy to everyone who knew her.

MaryAnn loved to tell the story of how she first noticed her future husband, James, when they were just children. Watching him ride his bicycle through an alley, she turned to her best friend, Anna Marie Fortune, and declared that he was the man she would one day marry – a testament to the lifelong love they shared.

MaryAnn was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 68 years, James Zaiger; son, Mark Zaiger, and daughter, Christine Zaiger.

Survivors include her son, Brian (Heather) Zaiger, and daughters, Marian (Kurt) Sprague, Karen (Paul) Medernach, and Kristine (John) Wood. She was a proud grandmother to 13 grandchildren; and a cherished great-grandmother to 10 great-grandchildren. MaryAnn’s legacy of love and family will continue through her beautiful family.

Family and friends will gather at 10 a.m. Monday, March 30, 2026, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m.

Burial will follow in Our Lady of Peace cemetery.

In memory of MaryAnn, contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 3091 E. 98th St., #240, Indianapolis, IN 46280.

MaryAnn will be remembered for her kindness, devotion to family, her deep faith, and the joy she brought into the lives of others.

She will be deeply missed and loved forever.
