Blazers cruise past Heritage Christian

University placed five players in double figures in an impressive 77-56 win over Heritage Christian at The U Center on Saturday, Feb. 7.

University trailed for only 20 seconds in the game. Faisal Mohamud’s three pointer off a Cooper Cammack assist put the Blazers ahead 7-5 with 5:10 remaining. The Blazers never trailed again. University led 21-14 after the first quarter. Seven different Blazers scored in the opening quarter, led by five points each from Peter Morales and Faisal Mohamud.

The Blazers extended the lead in the second quarter, outscoring the Eagles 13-8. Josh Henderson and Joshua McGee each had four points in the quarter and University took a 34-22 lead at the break.

Heritage Christian tried to climb back in the game, opening the second half on an 8-2 run to pull within 36-30.  The Trailblazers took a timeout and regained control, outscoring the Eagles 18-4 over the remaining 6:30. Blake Gray made two three pointers on his way to eight points in the quarter and University led 50-34 after the quarter.

University opened strong in the third quarter, stretching their scoring run to 14 on two McGee free throws and a three-point play by Henderson. University led by as many as 26 late in the game.

Henderson had 19 points to lead the Blazers. McGee, Gray and Morales each scored 12 points and Mohamud had 10.

The Trailblazers shot 62 percent from the field led by a 9-for-10 performance from Henderson and five for six shooting from Morales. University made 8 of 16 three pointers.

University had 22 assists on 33 made field goals. McGee and Cammack led with four assists each.

Henderson had a team-high 10 rebounds, blocked two shots and had three assists.
